What is organic certification?

Organic and bio-dynamic farming and processing is focussed on working with natural inputs and minimising adverse environmental impact.

A key principle in organic production systems is to direct farming activity to reduce the environmental impact of farming processes. This is achieved through improving the soil and land biodiversity so that plants and animals are provided with an abundance of naturally occurring nutrients rather than synthetic substances.

Organic certification with OFC offers you:

  • the recognition needed for access to niche organic domestic & export markets
  • written guarantee of quality to the customer
  • the potential of receiving a premium price for your product
  • consumer reassurance that products are produced organically while being monitored by a third party inspection process

Anyone who produces, prepares or markets certified organic, bio-dynamic or in-conversion products must be certified through an approved certifying body such as OFC.

We certify to the Australian Federal Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry National Standard for Organic and Bio-Dynamic Produce.

Organic and bio-dynamic food products certified to the National Standard do not allow:

  • Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s)
  • Chemical insecticides, herbicides or fungicides
  • Treatment with ionising radiation
  • Manufacturing/production using nanotechnology
  • “Nature identical” synthetic substances
  • Synthetic substances primarily considered as being unnatural or as a “new construction” of food compounds such as acetylated cross‐linked starches
  • Additives or processing aids produced using genetic engineering techniques
  • Synthetic colouring and synthetic preservatives
